So, ya, I turned 30 this year and it is our 10 year Anniversary this summer. The numbers don't bother me as much as the memory loss, muscle loss, and yes, the grey hairs. I really didn't think 30 was that old, but having three kids makes me feel old and tired a lot of the time. Anyway, that is life I guess. Moving on, this year for my birthday, John took me to Rodizio's and then handed me a present after our wonderful meal. It was a binder full of papers. As I started flipping through the pages, there were pictures of crab, sea lions, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge. At the end was our Travelocity plans for a trip to San Francisco. Needless to say, I was a little excited. I have telling John and that I really wanted to go on a trip, just the two of us for our 10 year Anniversary, but wasn't really sure that would be possible. It was so nice that he already had it all planned out. So, we went this last weekend and had a great time! It was very windy and a bit cold, but it was sunny and we were able to get away from all the rain we have been having here.
Not a great picture, but we just wanted to show that we stayed just off Fisherman's Warf. It was fun and little smelly from all the fish, but fun to see it all.
We got to tour a submarine and a Liberty ship. The movies just don't do it justice This submarine was small! John barely fit, I don't know how they were all able to run around to their posts when needed. It was crazy! Oh, I was definitely NOT made for the Navy. A boat passed by and the sub started rocking and I thought I was going to loss it right there in the tiny mess hall. Maybe it wasn't as bad once you got underneath the water, but then you have the claustrophobia... ya, not for me.
Of course we (we as in John) had to try the local flavor. This was a soup that had mussels, clams, calamari, crab legs, and who knows what other sea life in it. Here he is eating calamari and yes, it is the whole octopus looking thing. Gross! There was also these little circle looking things that we thought were pasta. Oh, not so. It was calamari head. Ya, I ate that and it is not my cup of tea!
We also visited the aquarium on Pier 39. It would have been more fun if we had our kids.
Remember the movie "Big"? Loved that movie. Didn't really work for us though.
We rode on a boat under the Golden Gate Bridge. IT. WAS. COLD! But very beautiful.
Then we also decided to walk to the bridge. From our hotel, it was a good 9 mile round trip. More than we have walked in a while. John wanted to ride bikes, but honestly, I was a little nervous to do that. I haven't been on a bike since I was like 12 and I am sure that I have forgotten how. Anyway, it was a lot fun to see more of San Francisco. There were 2 beautiful parks and the grounds right before the bridge were beautiful! We also passed by some very expensive looking homes.
Of course we had to walk on it too. We only went about a fourth of the way out because it was so cold and windy, but the view was pretty neat. My favorite part was a little phone with a sign next to it that said something like, "there is hope, call us." There was also another sign next to it that basically said, "don't jump, it will be fatal and tragic". I wonder if anyone really has called on that phone.
I think our favorite part of the whole trip was Alcatraz. We went through with an audio tour and it was really neat. Creepy, but neat. I was also very surprised at how beautiful the grounds were here too.
It was a lot fun to get away just to the two of us. Thank you John for planning it. It has been a wonderful 10 years. Also, thanks to my mom and Lynn and Mitch and Linsey for watching our kids for us. Oh, and I should also thank Kristen for watching our dog. Have I mentioned we have a dog? Another post I guess.
